About Tristan Young

I’m a freelance motoring writer specialising in the automotive industry; from the retail side of the business, through the fleet market, to the manufacture of vehicles.

Before going freelance under the Wheel Ideas banner, in 2010, I was the editor-in-chief of BusinessCar, a business-to-business publication for directors and managers who run fleets of company cars.

BusinessCar was my brain-child. At the time, I was the editor of Fleet Week and also contributing editor on sister, monthly, title Fleet Management. The joining of Fleet Week and Fleet Management to become BusinessCar gave me the new challenge I needed after five years running a weekly news & reviews based print magazine and it also brought the publishers of the two titles into the multi-platform era with a magazine that was available in print, on the web, in digital format, by email and also had events.

So, why am I a freelance journalist? Well, because I needed a new challenge and wanted to spend more time with my family. I’ve two kids – the eldest of which has started school this year – and would like catch more of those special moments.

I’m now lucky enough to count a host of publications as regular outlets including the Daily & Sunday Express, Autocar, Auto Express, BusinessCar and Just Auto.
